Between 1969 and 1980, Soviet archaeologists conducted excavations of Mesopotamian villages occupied from pre-agricultural times through the beginnings of early civilization. This volume brings together translations of Russian articles along with new work.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY

Norman Yoffee is professor in the Department of Near Eastern Studies and the Department of Anthropology at the University of Michigan.

Jeffrey J. Clark is a senior project director of Desert Archaeology in Tucson. He has conducted research in the Tonto Basin and neighboring areas for the past ten years.
